All West Communications announces Evanston School District fiber build.

Evanston, Wyoming – December 13, 2011 – All West Communications announces the Evanston School District fiber build in Evanston, Wyoming.

All West Communications will utilize a portion of their existing conduit system to install fiber optic cable, allowing Internet connectivity throughout most of Evanston School District’s schools. The build places the latest in fiber optic technology between the Horizon building, Uinta Meadows Elementary, Clark Elementary, Davis Middle School, the District office and will eventually reach the transportation building. The build is nearing completion and should be completed entirely around January 1, 2012.

As students and staff become more dependent on technology, All West Communications hopes their efforts of providing greater access and increased connectivity will also increase productivity in area schools. All West Communications has previously partnered with North Summit School District in Coalville, Utah as well as South Summit School District in Kamas, Utah for similar projects; however, the current Evanston School District project is notable for its larger scale.

Many individuals or low-income families qualify for assistance with telephone charges, but don’t realize that this help is available to them. If you’re experiencing financial difficulties, or have a friend or family member in this situation, we encourage you to look into these programs:

Lifeline – This program provides qualified customers with a monthly discount on charges for their primary home phone line. Lifeline can save you at least $10 per month depending on where you live.

Link-Up – Link-Up was created to reduce the cost that qualified customers have to pay for setting up new phone service at home. The program pays up to $30 for setup fees, not including the cost of the phone itself. Eligibility guidelines vary throughout the country.

You may qualify if you participate in at least one of the following programs or have a total household income at or below 135 percent of the Federal Poverty Guidelines:

To learn more about Lifeline and Link-Up, visit allwest.com/phone/lifeline. Or simply call our local office at 866.ALL.WEST (255.9378) for more details. We’ll provide you with more information to help you start saving on your phone bill.

BROADBAND is “Can’t Live Without” Technology

Think back to when cellular phones were first introduced. Did you say you weren’t going to get one since you didn’t think you’d use it very often? How about digital cameras? Did you drag your feet before taking the leap to digital photography?

Fast forward to today. How often do you use your cellular phone and digital camera? And could you imagine living without them? Technology often progresses from something we don’t see much need for to something that’s an integral part of our routine.

Broadband, or high speed Internet access, falls under this category. Broadband is becoming essential to participate in modern life. Many job applications, for instance, are not available on paper anymore. Health records and information are increasingly moving online. Those who don’t have broadband access are at an increased risk of being left behind.

In addition, the speed difference between dial-up connections, which uses telephone wires to transmit signals, and those that travel through fiber-optic broadband cables is significant. That’s because the Web is increasingly designed for broadband connections, to accommodate photos, video, and Flash animations. The result is that dial-up connections have actually gotten slower over time. Even if you were a contented dial-up user five years ago because you only checked email and read a few headlines, you’re probably no longer satisfied with the slow performance of dial-up access with websites that are now optimized for broadband.

Almost two-thirds of people in the U.S. have broadband at home, according to a 5,005-person survey published by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in February 2010. If you’re not yet one of them, All West urges you to consider signing up for broadband. It will give you access to the highest quality Internet services, many of which require the transfer of large amounts of data that may not be technically feasible with dial-up service. Broadband is your ticket to taking advantage of the full range of resources available online — and once you try it, you’ll probably wonder how you ever got along without it.

These days, there are many ways to keep in touch and each one has its advantages and disadvantages. As a community-based communications provider with deep ties to our area, All West wants you to be aware of the differences between landline and wireless phone services so you can make informed decisions about what works best for your family.

Landline

You have unlimited local calling.

In an emergency, E-911 service can trace your exact location.

A landline telephone works during a power outage.

Many extensions can be hooked up to the same number in one home.

For added convenience and reliability, landlines have optional features like Call Waiting, Call Forward, Custom Ringing, and Voice Mail.

Wireless

Incoming and outgoing calls count against your total minutes.

In an emergency, E-911 service may not be able to pinpoint your exact location.

If there is a power outage, you will have to wait for power to be restored before you can charge your phone.

If your home is in an area that does not provide clear wireless reception, your calls may be patchy, unclear, or have a tendency to be dropped.

For many people, a combination of landline and wireless phone services is the right choice. Call us for help with all your landline needs.
